BREAKTHROUGHS IN WEIGHT LOSS MEDICATION

These are based on a new category of drugs called Semaglutides, which are a class of medications known as like peptide-1 receptor agonists, or GLP-1 RAs. GLP-1 is a hormone naturally released in the gastrointestinal tract in response to nutrient intake. This results in a sensation of satiety, or fullness, lasting much longer than possible with natural GLP-1 hormone levels. They are discussed below:

Rapid Weight Loss with Wegovy:

Wegovy is an injectable prescription medicine used for adults with obesity (BMI over 30) or excess weight (BMI over 27) who also have medical-related medical problems to help them lose weight and keep the weight off.

It is a high-dose injectable peptide hormone molecule known as semaglutide, a medication that was previously approved by the FDA under the brand names Rybelsus (oral) and Ozempic (lower-dose injection) for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. The Injectable semaglutide  in the form of the higher-dose Wegovy allows for better crossing of the blood-brain barrier, which increases its weight-loss efficacy.

Rapid Weight Loss with Ozempic:

Ozempic® is a medicine for type 2 diabetes that, along with diet and exercise, may While not for weight loss, Ozempic® may help you lose some weight.  Wegovy is like Ozempic but with different dosages. Ozempic® may help you lose some weight

Ozempic® is not a weight-loss drug. In the same 2 studies looking at A1C, adults lost on average:

Ozempic®: 8 lb. (0.5 mg) and 10 lb. (1 mg) vs placebo: 3 lb.
Ozempic®: 12 lb. (1 mg) and 14 lb. (2 mg)
from an average starting weight of 202 lb. and 219 lb., respectively.

Rapid Weight Loss with Mounjaro:

Mounjaro is an injectable prescription medicine.

Mounjaro is not a weight loss drug but can produce rapid weight loss.

Individual results may vary. ‡In studies with or without other diabetes medications, weight loss in adults ranged from 12 lb. (5 mg) to 25 lb. (15 mg).
